so, this is what a rotten apple tasted like.... a bit frightening, a bit sour, lots os sweat and swearing, and slighting ridiculous.
two nights ago, my beloved Power Mac Dual G5 died on me. Technically, it really was still alive. it simply decided to shut the door on me. The incident was caused by 'panic' (kid you not, this is the EXACT technical term that the Apple care tech used!) ...apparently the Tiger got confused after a routine update.....and before i know it, the 'uncrashable' went down to the bottom of the ocean to be with the Titanic... never say never, how ironic.
i am still a Mac believer, despite all the stresses incurred by this untimely disaster (all my lesson plans were 'locked' inside for two days, and the Apple Care tech had the nerve to advise me to ERASE the whole computer and reload the OS!!!) Yet, in the aftermath of the 'crisis', i remain a Mac faithful. Nevertheless, this whole ordeal forced me to reevaluate how computer has taken over my life ( and probably my mojo too). An aged debate, i realize this. But i did spend quite some time pondering over the whole human dependency on high tech tools..if not anthing, electricity for one. Are we really that much more a superior race now? or have we 'evolved' to be that much weaker? How did people survived winters prior to indoor heating?? How did people eudure the darkness before the invention of light? How did our forefathers (and mothers!!) live an organized life before computer, PDA, Mobile handhelds, cell phone, iPod??, etc.??? I remember feeling so helpless thinking that i might have lost all my photos for the last 4 years.... i wondered how i could replace those memories.....then again, are we sooo occupied by documenting these 'memories' that we never really truly (TRULY) lived those memories?? anyone? I remember taking my camera with me all the way up to the top of the Alps in Lucien thinking that i was gonna faithly capture every moment of the experience..... then again, i was so in awe by the cloud, the maginitude of the sight, the wind, the smell, the silence that i forget to even turn on my camera... have i lost those moments forever?? or did i actually live those experiece to the fullness that no single crashed computer could ever robbed me of those precious memories?
memories, memories. The word lingers in my mind as March break officially kicks off.... maybe i will spend more time this break holding on to something more valuable, less tangible....as opposed to that piece of technology that i simply have no control over with....
happy March, baby~
