Jay M. Huang

life has been as uneventful as it can be these days. I like that~

well, i can't really say that it's been boring~ We've been having lots of fun lately. Aside from having contractors in and out of the house quoting the renovation costs; we attended a housewarming party, a wedding, and hosted a sports day/BBQ on Sunday. Good times~ =) What i meant by uneventful directly refers to the lack of intellection engagement in the past while. I guess i am a bit 'school-withdrawn' these days~ Having been a professional students for as long as i've lived, i am enjoying my last summer of freedom before i begin to teach again. Exciting, yet unsettling. How do i deal with it?? I do nothing~ ha.

Lately the topic of getting a legal name change surfaced again. I've been contenplating about the possibility of having a name-change so i can 'possibly' solve my issue with entering/exiting Taiwan~ and hopefully will be able to freely visit my family back in Asia in the future.

Your name is your identity. At least that's how we are taught. I never did like my name growing up~ nevertheless, it grew on me over the years. For some reason, i never did desire an Anglised name after i moved to Canada (despite some hommies back in MTL might know me briefly as 'David', biblical, but boring~sorry to Davids out there). Therefore the idea of getting a new name at age 30 (something close to that~) seems very silly to me; even upsetting~ For those who know me well, my name is Chien-Ming Huang. I never did like the sound of "Chien" (Dog in French.) because it doesn't sound at all like the really sound in mandarin. Jien is probably more like it. Some suggested "Jimmy'....or even "Jamie' (former is slightly kiddie, in my opinion, while the latter is the name of a friend, therefore i find it awkward). I briefly considered "James" as an alternative.... i even joked about changing my name to 'thomas Jefferson' or something prestigious~ "David' is definitely not an option. The bottom line: i like being a MING, and i really can't give it up as easily as "Chien".

to make a long story short, we (mom, jack and i) came up with a name on the way home one afternoon.

JAY MING HUANG (actually quite similiar to my real name), and Jack loves Jay~

so, what do you all think?? any thought?

I like 賤 (jian) better than Jay.
I do also like Jimmy...How about Jim? So we can still call you Jimmy. Though if you say your name is Jim Ming Huang—It sounds like you are a Korean from North Korea.

Don't do Jay man.. whenever I hear that name it makes me sing: che ge che ge ung ya~

jack likes Jay though...you know why~

i won't put MING on the passport at all...the whole idea is to eliminate any trace of chinese name on the passport in order to avoid hassle~

i've been cleaning up the house to make way for the summer renovation...found a box full of your print... do you want me to send them to you?? ( of course jack and i are going thru them and keeping some as storage and shipping/handling fees~)

what?? you don't like that?? Sue me~ wahhahahahhahah

hahahahahaha...
by the way, that't a silly name....if you don't want the trace of your chinese name...why don't you just use Jay Huang ( or James or whatever)...just don't leave any " chinese" spelling in your name

also, i don't like Jay( it is so hard to pronounce)

and, where is the webcam picture you are going to send to me???

I'll pick those prints up sometimes myself. so you don't need to take any 'shipping and handling' fee. Thank you very much

DON'T change your name unless it's to get you in and out of Taiwan. If that's your ONLY reason for changing your name, then totally do it - because that's a pretty good reason - but go totally disguised.. ... change your name to something like, Mike Robertson, for example. might as well totally screw them up at the border.. We'll all still call you Ming, though. Just don't be changing your name to "fit in". learn to play hockey if you wanna fit in, ya bum. Move to Ottawa; i'll teach you..
